A private midwife consultation during early pregnancy gives you the opportunity to discuss your pregnancy wellbeing and any concerns you may have. You may be experiencing some early pregnancy symptoms such as sickness and fatigue; our private midwife can give advice on how to help manage these and organise medication if required.

During this appointment, we will discuss pregnancy symptoms, diet and nutrition, exercise, antenatal screening in pregnancy and anything else you have questions about. We will also discuss the appointments you should expect and when to schedule them.

Our private midwife will perform a blood pressure check and urinalysis. Other blood tests can be performed should the need arise, or if you have a medical condition such as thyroid disease. Please note further charges will apply. 

• Our private midwife appointments are 60 minutes. We offer longer appointment times to ensure that you have the time you need to discuss any of your concerns.
• Partners and children are welcome to attend appointments with you.
• You feel you would benefit from extra reassurance.
• You will have a named Midwife and if you are having multiple appointments we will always aim for you to see the same Midwife for continuity.
• Your Private Midwife can signpost you to other professionals for specialist care such as physiotherapy, osteopathy private health visitors and lactation consultants.

Midwives are experts at caring for women during pregnancy and we want to provide you with support and evidenced based information along your journey to parenthood. 

If you or your pregnancy is high risk we would recommend booking the Consultant Led Package. In this case we can organise an appointment with our consultant Dr Ruwan Wimalasundera if you are based in London. In Cheshire we have three consultants with clinics covering 4 days of the week, please get in touch  if you would like to arrange an appointment. Please note that it is advisable to book with the NHS or a Private Hospital by 16 weeks of pregnancy alongside private care. If you are choosing to deliver with The Portland in London but you are not based in London we would recommend that you book with a hospital local to you as well. Our Midwives in Cheshire can help arrange this for you. 

The following are some of the reasons why you may be referred for consultant care:

Previous pregnancy:

• Pre-Eclampsia
• HELLP
• Hypertension
• Obstetric Cholestasis
• Consultant led care
• Low birth weight
• Previous gynaecological surgery
• stillbirth

Previous significant medical history such as:

• Hypertension
• Diabetes
• First degree relative with Diabetes (Mother/Father/Siblings)
• Endocrine disorders such as Hyper / Hypothyroidism
• Any blood disorders such as Thalassaemia/Sickle cell
• BMI <19 or >30
• Epilepsy
• Autoimmune disorders eg SLE (lupus)

At The Birth Company in Wimpole Street, London we offer morning, afternoon and evening availability for your Private Midwife Consultation during the week. A surcharge will be applied for evening appointments. We have a wide range of availability therefore same day appointments can be easily arranged. Our Private Midwifes are here to reassure even at short notice.

Cancellation Policy
