At 16 weeks of pregnancy; the early pregnancy symptoms you may have experienced ideally have passed. Our experienced private midwife will discuss and assess your pregnancy wellbeing. During this appointment we will perform blood pressure and urinalysis. If blood tests were taken by our private midwife earlier in the pregnancy, these results will be discussed with you in further detail.If you have had antental blood tests with your NHS hospital this can be discussed on the day. Depending on your Rhesus Factor, our private midwife may also recommend a further blood test to determine your baby’s blood group and Rh Factor which will help plan ongoing care. Rhesus Negative Test

• Our private midwife appointments are 60 minutes. We offer longer appointment times to ensure that you have the time you need to discuss any of your concerns.
• Partners are welcome to attend appointments with you.
• You feel you would benefit from extra reassurance
• You would prefer to see the same midwife

Whilst you are attending for your Midwife appointment you may want to schedule a Reassurance scan with our specialist sonographer. They will perform a detailed early anatomy and reassurance ultrasound scan to assess baby’s growth and development. You can find out the sex of baby during this ultrasound scan if you wish to. Reassurance Scan

Midwives are experts at caring for women during pregnancy and we want to provide you with support and evidenced based information along your journey to parenthood. Please note that you must be booked with the NHS or a private hospital by 16 weeks of pregnancy alongside private care.

If you are recommended to have consultant care by the NHS during your pregnancy, our midwife consultations would not be suitable for you. In this case we can organise a consultation with one of our Consultant Obstetricians. 

The following are some of the reasons why you may be referred for consultant care:

Previous pregnancy:

• Pre-Eclampsia
• HELLP
• Hypertension
• Obstetric Cholestasis
• Consultant led care
• Low birth weight
• Previous gynaecological surgery
• stillbirth

Previous significant medical history such as:

• Hypertension
• Diabetes
• First degree relative with Diabetes (Mother/Father/Siblings)
• Endocrine disorders such as Hyper / Hypothyroidism
• Any blood disorders such as Thalassaemia/Sickle cell
• BMI <19 or >30
• Epilepsy
• Autoimmune disorders eg SLE (lupus)

At The Birth Company in Wimpole Street, London we offer morning, afternoon and evening availability for your Private Midwife Consultation during the week. A surcharge will be applied for evening appointments. We have a wide range of availability therefore same day appointments can be easily arranged. Our Private Midwife is here to reassure even at short notice.

At The Birth Company in Hale we offer weekend day appointments Monday - Friday and home visits are available 7 days a week. Please contact the clinic to discuss availability if you wish to organise an appointment,

Cancellation Policy
